Lafayette School Corporation - sunnyside auditorium renovation
Kevin Projected Managed a fast tracked, multiple contract, interior renovation project of the existing Loeb Auditorium at Sunnyside Intermediate School in Lafayette, Indiana. The project is an interior finish upgrade, an electrical upgrade, and ADA improvements.
Construction consisted of three new exterior doors, one that is ADA complaint, and all exterior doors are connected to the school security system. One new ADA interior door was also added, with a new handrail on the existing ramp. This provided an improved ADA path of travel for the students and visitors. We also worked with a local grant foundation to fully fund an ADA compliant hearing loop, permanently installed into the floor.
Interior work focused on removing the existing blue and gold colors, in favor of the school’s colors; red and black. A new seating layout was developed with the seating contractor, with larger seats and larger back-to-back dimension to improve comfort. The seats red fabric and Art Deco endcaps, was matched with custom dyed carpet, and all new stage curtains. We worked with the school’s Art Department to develop custom silhouettes of the students to line the side walls of the theater. All the red and black is light up by new LED lighting, connected to the existing dimming system.
The project went from design to general construction bid in four months, with long lead items being contracted and ordered separately during design. The construction window was 10-weeks from the day after graduation, to the first day of class. We led the multiple contractors, to a project with 2% change orders and on time delivery for the first day of class.
