single room occupant + community market

The building seeks to explore the discovery notions of light.  There are points of immediate discovery when standing in the central walkway or approaching the site.  These experiences are either personal or on the community scale.  Slow developing ideas are the buildings program itself, a concept of community development that is internal and projected outward towards the community.  The affect is a difference on the person, the SRO, and Ohio City.

Physically, light is maximized inside the market and the community areas.  The physical light brightens the spaces essential to the individual growth of each resident.  The building creates visual pictures during multiple approaches and scaler changes.  Transparency of the building towards the community helps the center reach outwards towards the community.

The unit seeks the maximum and minimum extents of light through the regulation of structure.  The maximum light is achieved with voyeuristic picture window allowing full exposure of east-west light.  The minimum extent is a fully enclosed sleeping room that is completely void of light.

Drawings are ink and marker on vellum.
