Sigma Kappa Sorority - Renovation

Location
West Lafayette, IN

Project Costs
Final: $4.75M

Project Area
24,000 GSF

The Sigma Kappa Sorority, on the campus of Purdue University had not had a significant renovation since an addition in the early 1980’s.  They required a comprehensive program that included adding an automatic sprinkler system, new air conditioning throughout, and an updated aesthetic with new finishes that becomes a draw for new recruitment. The icon of the renovation was the reworking of the existing uninviting front entry into a grand foyer.  The old stairwell was completely removed and replaced with a curved wood staircase. An enclosed vestibule with glass doors, and the added clerestory windows, allows significantly more light into the space. Major renovation also took place in all of the restrooms to make them more functional and desirable.  New ceramic tile flooring and wall tile gives the bathrooms a warm and luxurious feel.  New make-up counters and lighted mirrors were added, along with new cubbyholes below for personal items and to alleviate congestion at the sinks.
